Managing Director and Founder

Steve founded Alexander and Co. Ltd in 2000 to assist people with the increasing incidence of severe building failure and resulting disputes. The early work of the company involved advising insurers about building defect claims made against territorial authorities and company growth involved more investigation and remediation of residential and institutional buildings. Steve has been a pioneer of building surveying and remediation practice in New Zealand, having been investigating buildings for years before the building crisis came to public attention.

Steve has assisted as expert witness in over 700 building failure disputes, gaining extensive experience with understanding the issues faced by territorial authorities, contractors, owners of multi unit residential buildings and institutional building owners.

Most disputes are settled in mediation and Steve has attended more mediations than all other experts in New Zealand. Steve is a Fellow of the Arbitrators and Mediators Institute and is on the AMINZ adjudication panel. He has adjudicated many disputes and has been a court appointed expert of many occasions.

Now working full time on dispute resolution he offers a range of dispute resolution services so that solutions can be “right sized” cost effective for the specific dispute at hand.
